MAXIMIZING RESOURCES AVAILABLE WHEN THE COMPUTER FIRST BOOTS

For Windows 2000

speed

When your computer is first turned on it's possible for several programs to start up in the background in an attempt to make themselves more readily available to you should you decide to run them. Each program in this state is using some of your computer's available resources. If a computer has several programs starting like this it's possible that a significant amount of your computer's resources are being used and so are unavailable for you to accomplish the tasks you wish to. By stopping these programs from starting automatically when your computer starts up you will be freeing those resources which will translate into an appreciable increase in the performance of your computer.

To Minimize Starting Programs

To turn off programs starting in the background and using your computer's resources, right click on the Task Bar, left click on Properties, left click on the Advanced tab at the top of the window that opens and then left click on the button titled Remove...

You will probably see some icons representing programs that you have installed on your computer and some folders. You can delete any of the icons that you like. Two Techs recommends that you delete anything that you are not accessing every time you use your computer.

Next open the folders one at a time and delete any icons you find here using the same strategy as you did before. If there are subfolders do the same for each of those.

You can delete anything or everything located here. These icons are simply shortcuts to your program - not the program itself, so you are not deleting the program or changing your ability to use any programs on your computer.

performance

Once you have deleted all the icons you want to simply close all the windows and you are done!
It will be necessary to reboot the computer for the effects to take place.
